I am a Middle Childhood Education Major at Otterbein University with a concentration area in Science and Language Arts. I will also be graduating in May with a Generalist Endorsement so that I can also teach Math and Social Studies in grades 4-6. My wonderful student teaching experience was done at Worthington Christian Middle School in a 6th grade science class and a 7th grade language arts class. For one placement, I was assigned to tutor a 5th grade girl in various subjects. I have also taken students out of the room and done one-on-one and group tutoring sessions to help the students further grasp the concepts. I have worked with students who have IEP's and loved figuring out hands-on methods I could use to engage them and help them to understand the concept. I believe that every student can succeed, they simply need someone who believes in them and will work to find ways to engage and interest them in the learning process. It is vital that a tutor or teacher knows the interests of their student so they can apply the learning to their student's life. Overall, I tend to take a very hands-on, visual approach to learning. If the student doesn't care, isn't fascinated/curious, or isn't engaged with the learning then they may not remember any of the information, even if they were able to memorize it for a test. I want students to remember what they have learned because they thought it was awesome and quite useful, not because they needed to know it for a test.
