Experience
I have taught in schools from the early intervention level through 8th grade. I realized that my passion is reading and tutoring one-on-one. I love getting to really know students and being able to help them develop new skills and become more confident readers. I generally use the Orton-Gillingham method for reading instruction. I believe that a phonics-based approach is important for most struggling readers. I supplement this method, depending on the needs of the student. I use other programs and materials to work on fluency, comprehension, and to introduce more literature. In addition to being Orton-Gillingham trained, I also have training in Handwriting Without Tears, Multisensory Grammar, and TouchMath. I truly believe that multisensory techniques help children to grasp and retain information, and they are FUN!
